Some things are made quickly. This was not one of them.
Handcrafted in Peru using traditional Andean artisan techniques, this ushanka-inspired hat draws from a lineage of craft that long predates fast fashion. Baby alpaca — one of the rarest natural fibers in the world — is prized not only for its exceptional softness but for its ability to insulate without weight. The pelts used here were ethically sourced from natural loss within Andean herds, not from animal sacrifice.
The exterior is genuine baby alpaca pelt in a rich, deep brown with the natural luster that only this fiber produces. The silhouette follows the classic Russian ushanka — voluminous, structured, uniform — with no thinning or bald patches. Inside, a smooth satin lining in a coordinating brown tone sits cleanly against the skin. As a preloved piece from a personal collection, it may carry minor signs of storage; the photos tell the full story.
Outer width: 8.5″ / 21–22cm | Inner width: 7.5″ / 18–19cm | Height: 5–6″ / 13–15cm | Size: Standard adult
Choosing this preloved piece saved ~600 liters of water and avoided ~5 kg of CO₂.
Worn pulled low against a wool coat for the coldest mornings. Paired with a simple dark scarf when the look calls for restraint. Care through a furrier; keep away from moisture and direct sunlight. A hat like this is not replaced — it is passed on.
